We are continuing to receive daily guidance from the TN Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. The CDC has stated that the COVID-19 has not impacted East Tennessee yet. We are making preparations for a short or long-term closure of our schools, in the event that it is recommended by the Department of Health, the State or Federal government. As of today, we have NO indication that this will occur and schools will be open on a normal schedule. We do not take the decision to close school lightly because of the adverse effects it has on everyone. However, the TN Department of Health and the CDC have both stated that if there are multiple cases confirmed in a county that closure of school for an extended period would have to occur. We understand that school staff, parents and the community are concerned about everyone’s health and safety. It is our goal to keep students, employees and the community healthy and safe. Our custodial staff and bus drivers will continue to disinfect the classrooms, buildings and busses with disinfectants that are shown to protect against the COVID-19. Principals at every school are putting in additional procedures to help with prevention. The following are recommended precautions from the CDC: 1. Promote handwashing 2. Don’t touch face 3. Sterilize buildings/busses 4. Sterilize playgrounds/weight rooms/gym equipment 5. Avoid sharing of any equipment – band instruments, balls, play toys, etc… 6. Avoid use of water fountains 7. Encourage Social distancing– no hugging or close contact (6 ft. away) If your student does not feel well and has flu like symptoms please keep them at home. Our Telehealth services are provided at every school if your child needs to be monitored. If a student has traveled oversees recently or has visited any “Hotspot” (California, Washington state, Oregon, and New York) please let school administrators know. Johnson County Schools will be releasing our COVID-19 protocol and response plan over the next few days. Please check our website ( www.jocoed.net ) or our Facebook page (Johnson County Department of Education) for information that will be updated regularly. You can find a link to the meeting agenda below. View the Agenda Link to View the Live Stream (Begins at 6:00 p.m.) Johnson County Schools Closed October 5th – October 9th Posted On: Friday, October 2, 2020 Johnson County Schools will be closed Monday October 5 th – Friday October 9 th due to COVID and difficulty covering staff members that are currently out. We will be doing a deep cleaning at all of our schools during this week. This is very similar to when we have to close based on the Flu. There will be no Kid’s Country or Kid’s Carrol and lunches will not be served. The majority of our initial positive cases have been traced from outside the school system. During this week it is important for students to complete any work they may be missing and to get caught up. It is also very important that any staff member or student that tests positive reports during the time we are out next week to Wendy Henley at 727-2181 so that we can work together to contact trace cases and help stop the spread. We feel this is necessary to avoid a prolonged shut down and to keep from going to a total virtual learning platform in the future. We appreciate everyone for understanding that the health and welfare of our students and staff are of utmost concern. Family Support Services Posted On: Wednesday, September 23, 2020 Johnson County Schools understands that circumstances can present many challenges and obstacles for students and families. Johnson County Schools' Family Resource Center works in solidarity with the community to meet the needs of our students and families. We offer basic necessities to families, as well as, provide resources, referral resources, and support. It is our commitment to families that we will adhere to high ethical standards and will work hard to break down the barriers that your family may be facing. The FRC works with students and families to meet needs that affect the learning process in the classroom. This is done by including services in schools, linking families to agencies in the community, providing free laundry services, hygiene items, and more.
